{"id":2098,"date":"2022-06-06T00:06:13","date_gmt":"2022-06-05T21:06:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/endometriosisnet.gr\/endometriosis-the-real-problem-in-numbers\/"},"modified":"2022-06-06T00:06:13","modified_gmt":"2022-06-05T22:06:13","slug":"endometriosis-the-real-problem-in-numbers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/endometriosisnet.gr\/en\/endometriosis-the-real-problem-in-numbers\/","title":{"rendered":"Endometriosis: The real problem in numbers"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Endometriosis affects 1 in 10 women of reproductive age, or around 176 million women worldwide<sup>1<\/sup>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-medium-font-size\">In women with infertility, the frequency of endometriosis can rise to 35-50%<sup>2<\/sup>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Every year, the disease causes around 70 billion dollars to the healthcare systems<sup>3<\/sup>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Endometriosis causes a significant loss in the number of working hours, around 11 hours per week per patient<sup>4<\/sup>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-medium-font-size\">On average, it takes 8 years from the first symptom to diagnosis<sup>5<\/sup>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Medical management is successful in 2\/3<sup>rds<\/sup> of patients with endometriosis<sup>6<\/sup>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-medium-font-size\">A number of women with endometriosis needs surgery. It is estimated that more than 100.000 hysterectomies are done in the United Stated per year due to endometriosis and around 12% of women with endometriosis will need a hysterectomy at some point in their lives<sup>7,8<\/sup>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-medium-font-size\">The post-operative rate of recurrence is estimated to be higher than 20%<sup>9,10<\/sup>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Endometriosis, often, coexists with other diseases.
