Often considered the most “severe” form of endometriosis, it is, thankfully, less common than superficial or ovarian endometriosis. Also termed ‘’infiltrating,, endometriosis, as, for reasons that are incompletely understood, the foci infiltrate deeply, often causing severe, debilitating pain and distortion of normal anatomy.
Surgical removal (excision) of all lesions offers significant pain relief, however, it should only be performed by surgeons specially trained in endometriosis surgery, as, otherwise, there are risks of serious injury to healthy organs.
Collaboration with other specialties (e.g. general surgeons, urologists, etc.) is often required, depending on which organs are affected by deep endometriosis. In our specialist endometriosis service, we are happy to offer you a highly-skilled multi-disciplinary team of healthcare professionals, ready to tackle even the most severe forms of deep endometriosis.
