Endometriosis lesions infiltrate deeply (more than 5 millimeters) one or more parts of the bowel, usually causing severe bowel symptoms. It can infiltrate the rectum, sigmoid, terminal ileum and appendix, causing severe alteration of the normal anatomy. In rare cases, bowel obstruction due to bowel endometriosis has been reported.
